A blade that stab a valley

Actually, the blade is a waterfall located in Tanah Karo Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia, at the north shore of the great Toba Lake. The waterfall is known as Sipiso-piso Waterfall. The term “piso” means knife or blade. The waterfall earned its name because the locals who live at the surrounding area saw that the narrow waterfall looked like a giant blade that cut a hill and stab the bottom of the valley below.

Sipiso-piso Waterfall is considered one of the highest waterfalls in Indonesia. The water come from an underground river on the Karo Plateau, then plunge into some 120 meters gorge below with a thunderous roar. The water then flow through a small river at the bottom of the gorge to the nearby Toba Lake.

Travelers can enjoy the scenery without any special efforts because the waterfall is seen clearly from an opening close to the parking lot. There are some viewing posts that enable travelers see the waterfall on one side and also a part of Toba Lake on the other side. For them who want to go to the base of the waterfall, however, they have to walk down hundreds of steep stone stairs which guide them directly to the base of the waterfall.

I was there on a cloudy afternoon. Drizzle greeted me and my family at the site, so I decided not to go down to the base of the waterfall. It seemed that I took a good decision, for a downpour came right after I left the viewing post to get to my car.

Located on a 800 meters above sea level make the temperature quite cool, and fog easily formed at the top of the surrounding hills. The hills look green because they are covered by pine forests. The location is not too far from Brastagi, the small town known as the fruit and flower heaven of Sumatra.

Ringkasan :

    • Yes, mother nature is always amazing, that is why we should protect the nature to keep her always beautiful 🙂

      • I 100% agree with you abt this,Chris13jkt. Even though I have only lived this life for abt 23 years, somewhere in my memmory told me that the atmosphere used to be so much better before.

There is a very nice city of my country named “Đà Lạt”, or we call it the city of dream, the city of romance – it’s trully a beautiful high land – with so many green hills and endless forests of pines, cool and fresh air – wonderful climate.

Then the city started to be destroyed by its own fame, people cut down trees, built more hotels, resorts… Luckily , the citizens noticed what they have been doing is just so wrong, and now they keep fixing eveything before it was too late ^ – ^

    • Yup, I heard about Da Lat. It is already in my place to visit list. Do you live there, Yin?
Anyway, I’m glad that the people of Da Lat realize about what they did to the nature there. Hope the beauty of Da Lat’s nature can be enjoyed forever 🙂

      • Feel so happy and proud knowing you have Dalat in your list, Chris13jkt ^ – ^ Even though I love that city of romance, still find my hometown -SaiGon (or Hochiminh city) as my dearest place of the world (there is nowhere like home, isn’t it🙂 )

I plan to visit dalat in this year’s ending, there will be a really big Flowers festival at that time ^ – ^

this is the link to my Dalat trip last year, since I wrote it in Vietnamese – so the infomation will not be shared well😦 hope that some of those photos may give hand to grow more of your love for Dalat ^ – ^
