Every time I stay in a certain place to wait for a sunrise, I always remember the song sung by The Beatles titled “Here Comes The Sun”  🙂

Last July, once again I waited for the sunrise, this time at a place called Pananjakan. It is a hill located on the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, in East Java. many people said, that at 2770 meters above sea level, Pananjakan is one of the perfect spot to catch the sunrise.

Usually, travelers started to get to Pananjakan early in the morning by chartered jeeps that started either from Cemorolawang, Wonokitri, or Ngadas. Those three names are the names of small villages close to Pananjakan, where travelers spend their night before starting their trip to see the sunrise at Pananjakan.

At that time I chose to spend a night in a nice hotel with a spectacular view of Mt. Bromo in front of the hotel, at Cemorolawang. I came to the place via Probolinggo, a small city about 102 kilometers or 2 hours drive from Surabaya. It took another 1 hour drive from Probolinggo to Cemorolawang.

Early in the morning, at around 3.30 AM somebody knocked my room’s door and said that the time had come to go to Pananjakan. So after wearing my thick jacket to fight the chilly temperature, I went directly to the hotel parking lawn and started my journey in a 4 wheel drive jeep which I rented the day before. By 4.00 AM, I was already at Pananjakan, only to found that there were so many people had already gathered at that place. It was quite difficult to find a clear spot to capture the spectacular moment 😦 . At last, I found a spot where at least I could stand safely to enjoy the sunrise even-though that was not a good spot. Perhaps I have to make a plan to visit to Pananjakan again in another time.
