The beauty of mariposa

Butterflies are insects that we can easily find almost everywhere. The beautiful pattern of  its wings has been known for ages and become the inspiration to many poets, composers and artists for their masterpieces. An unknown poet made a quote as follows,

Love is like a butterfly, it goes where it pleases and it pleases wherever it goes.

Love is like a butterfly, hold it too tight, it’ll crush, hold it too loose, it’ll fly.

Indonesia has many species of butterflies; some of it becomes extinct because of forest degradation and uncontrolled hunting by locals who capture the butterflies to be sold after being killed and mounted on a simple display box.

To prevent the beautiful insects from extinction, many butterfly parks were built. One of it is Cihanjuang Butterfly Park (Taman Kupu-Kupu Cihanjuang) which is located in a village called Cihanjuang, in Cimahi district, near Bandung, Indonesia. It is not a big butterfly park compared to other similar parks around the world, but it is quite well managed. There are around 500 colourful butterflies of more than 40 species fluttering freely around the green environment. People can also see the metamorphosis of butterflies in there because the park is a place for breeding and preservation of butterflies too.

When I visited the park, I was lucky enough to witness a butterfly break out of its cocoon, and after a short time fly away for the first time.
